What Porchlight is

Porchlight is a daily check-in service for seniors, operated by UhuruED Inc in Oberlin, Ohio. A family member sets it up; the senior checks in once a day by phone call, text, or a button; family contacts are notified if a check-in is missed.

What we collect

  • Account holder: name, email, and password (stored encrypted).
  • Loved one: first name, phone number, check-in time, and general location (state, for time zone).
  • Alert contacts: name and phone number.
  • Check-in history: when check-ins were completed or missed, and which alerts we sent.
  • Payment details are handled by Stripe. We never see or store card numbers.

What we do with it

One thing only: run the check-in service. We place the calls, send the texts, and notify the contacts you chose. We do not sell or share your information with anyone, we do not use it for advertising, and we never use the phone numbers you give us for anything except check-ins and alerts.

Who we share it with

Only the services that make Porchlight work: Twilio (places the calls and texts), Stripe (payments), Vercel and Neon (hosting and database). Each receives only what it needs to do its job.

Texting

Reply STOP to any Porchlight text to stop receiving texts. Message and data rates may apply. Phone numbers and consent are never shared with third parties for marketing.

Deleting your data

Removing a loved one from your dashboard deletes their information and check-in history. To delete your whole account and everything in it, email support@uhurued.com and we’ll do it within 7 days.

Important limits

Porchlight is a family notification service, not an emergency or medical service. It never contacts 911. Calls and texts can fail for reasons outside our control; Porchlight should never be the only way anyone checks on a loved one.
